The Gozo Business Chamber has highlighted the need for a fourth ferry between Gozo and Malta
In a statement, the Chamber expressed its disappointment at the present service being offered by the Gozo Channel Co after a fault developed on Thursday in one of its vessels.
It said that it “fully understands that faults can develop in the ships operated by the company, and this is bound to happen more frequently once the ships’ life plods along.”
“However, one must understand,” the Chamber said, “that the heavily inflicted delays are detrimental to commuters, and are causing Gozo, irreparable damage.”
“The need of a fourth vessel, has been called for by the Chamber for the simple fact that traffic to and from Gozo has increased substantially in the last years, and it is making it next to impossible for the Company to operate with an unchanged fleet of ferries that has been in existence for 18 years,” the GBC stated.
The Chamber went on to say that “it appears that although the Gozo Ministry and the Company have approved this investment, this still needs to be given the green light by other authorities.”
The Gozo Business Chamber concluded by saying that it fully supports the Company and the Ministry in their endeavour to better the service “which is the lifeline of Gozo.”
