The Planning Authority originally refused the planning application in March last year The application and appeal had been made by Mr. Angelo Cefai on behalf of AAC Ltd. a company owned by Ta’ Frenc Real Estate.

Qala Local Council, residents, eNGOs and other entities had all objected to the application, saying that this application if granted, would throw the door wide open to other developments in that area.

A victory for common sense and for the Qala Mayor who tirelessly campaigns to save Hondoq from the speculators who want to ruin it. To allow this so called souvenir shop would open the floodgates to applications for development on the side of the bay closest to Mgarr – what comes next? an application for another hotel? and then it will need a road and then another villa complex…………………and so it goes on and the rape of Gozo will soon be complete – only then tourists will not want to come as it will be the same as everywhere else – oh dear.
