Gozo considered among top sustainable destinations in the world

To mark World Tourism Day which is celebrated worldwide every 27th September, a conference was organised by the Gozo Tourism Association in conjunction with the Gozo NGOs Association.
The Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana, gave the opening address for the conference, which had the theme – Optimising the synergies within the tourism and volunteering sectors
Minister Caruana said that Gozo is proud that, once again, it has been chosen as one of the top sustainable destinations in the world.
She added that “Gozo is no longer thought of as only a summer destination, thanks to various programmes organised by the Ministry for Gozo, the island has become a sought after tourist destination throughout the year.”
She referred to a number of new initiatives implemented during the year to further strengthen the Gozitan tourism product.
“The Ministry, with the help of various stakeholders, recently launched Opera Month in Gozo “This programme is based on the the fact that opera is a tradition in Gozo, however we wanted to give more importance to this particular sector,” said the Minister.
Justyne Caruana thanked the Gozo Tourism Association and volunteer organisations for their contribution to generate more tourism in Gozo.
Mr Paul Scicluna, Chairman of the GTA, thanked the Minister for Gozo for her work on the tourism sector in Gozo, which he said, remains a pillar and a major economic driver, as well as a niche for creating new jobs.
