The consultation process is now closed in respect of a Gozo Regional Authority for the Development Gozo.
The Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana, in a statement, explained that over the last weeks, a consultation process had taken place to enable the public to voice their thoughts and suggestions on this proposed Authority.
The Minister said that through the Gozo Regional Development Authority, the institutional framework of Gozo will be strengthened.
“Again, the Ministry for Gozo will focus on the political direction within the framework of national policies, but with focus on the special needs of Gozo. This will allow the Authority to institutionalise various roles,” explained the Minister.
The Authority will ensure that Gozo has a regional development strategy to be reviewed every three years, for the economic and social framework, as well as the environmental aspect of Gozo, so that they are constantly updated to changing circumstances and opportunities that are created, said Minister Caruana.
Consultants David Spiteri Gingell, gave an account of the proposals made, and Dr Vanni Bruno presented the draft document which was prepared by him on the basis of the comments received.
This draft is now being published to eventually be discussed in Parliament, Dr Caruana said
She urged for more dialogue and discussions on this bill “because it is an important step in the regional development of Gozo, and should be regarded as a historical one.”
