The Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana has launched Gozo Opera Month, with a programme of activities linked to opera in Gozo.
Minister Caruana said that this festival programme is taking place for the first time after lengthy discussions between all parties concerned.
The Minister expressed her satisfaction that the two theatres in Victoria organised such opera productions in Gozo, which will now be part of a much broader and challenging programme. .
She said that the aim of the Ministry is to bring culture in its various forms closer to the citizens and therefore, with the help of the two main societies and a number of other stakeholders, a number of opera-related events will be held outside of the main theatres.
These will range from lectures on the operas, concerts, and exhibitions on the related topic.
Dr Caruana explained that Gozo will also be decorated with the theme of opera, so popular during the month of October on the island.
The Minister concluded by saying that the heritage the societies have built up over the years should be sustained and encouraged to flourish among future generations, and that is why the Ministry for Gozo has invested strongly in this initiative.
