With effect from this Monday the UHM said that it is introducing directives for workers who are employed by contractors on the Gozo Channel ferries.
The Union has ordered these workers not to clean the toilet areas on board, berth ships in harbour and not to go down to the garage decks.
The UHM said in a statement that it has taken the action to assist these workers who have “become disillusioned,” and compared to the Gozo Channel employees doing similar tasks, have very different working conditions.
The Union said that the case was escalated up to the Director of Labour through industrial disputes, resulting in an official meeting held on Tuesday, the 4th of September.
However, the UHM said, to date there has been no answer or conclusion reached on the situation of these employees.
The directives will continued until the situation is resolved, the UHM added.
