Work to rebuild Mgarr Road, Nadur, will begin on Monday, the Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana has announced
This busy arterial road connects the village of Nadur with Mgarr Harbour, and the project includes reconstruction of the road, added safety systems to reduce the risk of accidents and facilities for the necessary services under the road.
The Minister explained that this investment is one of several infrastructure projects currently underway in Gozo and a number of others already carried out, with more to begin in the coming weeks.
“The Ministry is giving importance to this road as it is in a state of bad repair and has been this way for several years, the Minister said.
Dr Caruana said that once all the work on this road and Triq Sant Antnin in Ghajnsielem is ready, Gozitans and all those who visit the island will have a better journey to and from the harbour.
Architect Godwin Sultana is responsible for the project and explained that the first phase of work is to consolidate the road base and the supporting walls. This will be followed by work on the gutters for necessary services before giving it a new surface.
The Nadur Mayor Edward Said welcomed the news that this main artery will get the attention it deserves. He said that the Local Council had received many complaints about the road and the danger it posed.
He appealed to Nadur residents to use alternative routes as proposed by Transport Malta until the work is completed.
Mr Said thanked the Minister for Gozo for the work that is to be carried out.
