Update: Marsalforn Watersports provides fun and entertainment

Update with winners: Marsalforn Watersports took place along the waterfront on Sunday afternoon in perfect weather, and provided an action-packed afternoon of events.
About 14 competitors participated in the Gostra where after 8 attempts each, for the second year in a row, the winner was Jurgen Attard from Xewkija, who grabbed the Maltese flag cheered on by the many spectators. The second place was won by Mike Caruana, with the third flag also grabbed by Jurgen Attard to win the third place.Supporters lined the promenade to cheer on the competitors taking part in the canoe races – including single and double canoe competitions, swimming competitions and the main attraction for the afternoon – the Gostra (slippery pole).
Children, youths and adults, participated in the canoe races and the swimming competitions.
The winners in the swimming competitions were Kayle Meilak Bigeni (Under 6’s), Gianni Schembri (Under 10’s), Isaac Azzopardi (under 12), David Borg (under 16’s) and for the adults Christian Dalli (over 21’s) .For the canoe singles competitions the winner were David Borg and Mathew Grech.
The canoe doubles competition winners were Samuel and Julian Vella (Under 13’s), Chris Tyler and Anton Cremona (under 16’s) and for the adults over 21’s the winners were Jodie Attard and Emma Xuereb and David Borg and Matthew Grech.
Compered by Mr Joe Louis Xiberras and Ms Sandra Grech, Marsalforn Watersports came to an end with the presentation of trophies to all the winners by the Minister for Gozo Dr Justyne Caruana.
The giochiknockout team together with the Kumitat Amministrattiv Marsalforn, thanked the Ministry of Gozo, the Gozo Sports Board, Zebbug Local Council, Eco Gozo and several Marsalforn bars and restaurants for their support for this afternoon of great watersports events and Alain Salvary (Gozo News).
The Gostra competition, was sponsored mainly by Marsalforn watersports (Johnny Cefai) together with Chris Xuereb, Steve Xuereb and Joseph Caruana Ltd.
