At the annual Diocesan Marian Manifestation held this week in Marsalforn, Bishop Mario Grech referred to the letter by Pope Francis to the People of God following the cases of sexual abuse that occurred in Pennsylvania.
Bishop Grech said, “I take this opportunity to, as I have in the past, once again appeal, that if someone is aware of abuse of this kind, report this crime to the police. I thank God that the majority of our priests are good, but any perpetrators of such abuses should be denounced to the police.”
The Bishop also told those present that the Church in Malta was one of the first in 1999, to adopt a policy on this subject, this policy is still in force he sad. “It is my responsibility as a Bishop, to take action in similar cases following the laws of the Church and the country.
“As I said in the last Pastoral Letter, even when we see some stones get loose and fall, or even if a supporting arch of the sanctuary totters, when the Church is resting on Jesus Christ then we should not loose heart because he, Jesus, the keystone, is still in place.”
