The level A1 of the Maltese per Stranieri series by the Gozitan author Dr. Charles Daniel Saliba, were presented to the Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana.
These three books, are the latest publication of Dr. Saliba, focusing on the teaching of Maltese to foreigners, and aimed at Italians who want to learn the Maltese language.
They form part of the series Maltese per Stranieri and are Parlo Maltese 1, Le Mie Prime 750 Parole in Maltese and Grammatica Maltese Essenziale e Contestuale 1.
Minister Caruana said that such books are useful in creating interest and to raise awareness in the language of our country.
The Minister added that the Maltese language should be kept alive by adapting to the times without losing its identity, and by broadening its horizons and becoming more accessible. That is why the work of Dr. Saliba is important, because it incorporates these two factors, she said.
Dr Caruana went on to say that these books will certainly be helpful to foreigners who are choosing our country to establish themselves and considering Malta as their natural home.
Dr. Saliba remarked that he felt it was time the country opened a Maltese Learning Centre for foreigners on the islands, which would be a great help to those who want to learn Maltese for various reason.
Dr. Saliba said that through this Centre of specialised teaching, they can also continue do research on the Maltese language, ensuring that it survives and becomes better known.
