Delicata Wine Festival - NadurIt’s almost time for this year’s Delicata Classic Wine Festival, which will be back at Nadur, Gozo, for the 16th year, in a 3-day celebration of wines, food and live entertainment.

Gnien il-Kunsill garden, will be the setting for this very popular event, on the 31st of August and the 1st and 2nd of September, organised by Delicata in conjunction with the Nadur Local Council.

The common currency for the Festival will be wine coins, exchangeable for glasses of wines. The company said that to try the wines, visitors can purchase 24 wine coins in a complimentary purse and a souvenir glass (yours to keep), all for €15.

“Handing over the correct change of wine coins at the stalls inside will prompt the wine stewards to pour a standard 150 ml glass of the wine on show in the clearly marked festival glass. We generously serve all wines by the glass: no tasters, no bottles,” Delicata said.

Different wines hold different currency: the charge ranges from 8 wine coins for a glass of the flagship selection: Gran Cavalier and Grand Vin de Hauteville to 6 coins for Medina, Victoria Heights and Frizzantes, and 4 coins for a 150 ml pouring of other quality wines such as the Classic Collection, Pjazza Regina, The Falcon, Dolcino and others. “The coins are non-refundable and not convertible to cash, ” Marsovin said.

Visitors can sample over 20 wines. Vintages of nine Delicata award-winning brands are served from as many stalls spread along the garden’s periphery.

A variety of both traditional Maltese and international dishes will be available, served from live cooking stalls. As well as a selection of pizza, traditional Gozitan ftajjar, fried rabbit, suckling pig, Swiss sausages, BBQ grills and various baguettes and desserts.

Entertainment is provided for visitors each night. On Friday there will be performances by Ronald Briffa, Elaine Haber, Jolene Samhan and Band, Gozo Boy Band and Upper Lip

Then on Saturday it will be the turn of Pierre Cordina, Rebecca Bonello, Planet Seed, Cash and Band.

The festival closes on Sunday with Ronald Briffa & Pierre Zammit, MAE Band, Straight Ahead, Kersten Graham and Band.

Delicata said that whilst entrance to the Festival is free, strictly no wine will be served to anyone under 17 and patrons are reminded to enjoy themselves responsibly.

It added that wine glasses are sold until 11.00pm, wine is poured up to 11.30pm and the festival closes at midnight. Mineral water and soft drinks are also available for purchase.

There will be shuttle mini-bus service between the Mgarr ferry terminal and Gnien il-Kunsill, which costs €2 for a return trip.

The shuttle starts operating upon arrival of the ferry leaving Cirkewwa at 6.45pm and stops operating at 00.15am from Nadur to catch the ferry leaving Gozo at 00.45am. There will also be private taxis that will service the event.
