Malta International Airport has said that July ended with 756,356 passenger movements, establishing a new traffic record, with expectations for almost 6.8 million passengers by the end of 2018.
This was an increase of 12.1% over the same month last year, and also surpassed the previous record of August 2017 by more than 62,000 passenger movements.
Last July also saw an 11.3% increase in aircraft movements and a rise of 11.5% in seat capacity, as well as the highest seat load factor for the year so far at 87.1%.
The top five markets for the airport have remained unchanged since April, with the UK occupying the top spot followed by Italy, Germany, France and Spain.
MIA noted that four of the top markets registered growth that ranged between 14.4% and 34.3%, however Germany’s passenger movements decreased by 4.3%.
It said that this decrease resulted from a reduced schedule by TUI cruises, affecting the cruise and fly passenger traffic throughput.
