In November 2008 compared with October 2008, seasonally adjusted industrial production fell by 1.6% in both the euro area (EA15) and the EU27. In October production also decreased by 1.6% in both zones.
In November 2008 compared with November 2007, industrial production declined by 7.7% in both the euro area and the EU27. These estimates are released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities.
Monthly comparison
In November 2008 compared with October 2008, production of non-durable consumer goods grew by 0.1% in the euro area, but fell by 0.2% in the EU27. Production of energy decreased by 1.5% and 1.0% respectively. Capital goods declined by 1.8% in the euro area and by 2.3% in the EU27. Durable consumer goods dropped by 2.4% and 1.7% respectively. Intermediate goods fell by 2.8% in both zones.
Among the Member States for which data are available for November 2008, industrial production fell in eighteen and rose only in Ireland (+10.2%) and Greece (+0.6%). The most significant falls were registered in Slovenia (-12.8%), Estonia (-7.7%), Slovakia (-7.1%) and Portugal (-5.8%).
Annual comparison
In November 2008 compared with November 2007, production of non-durable consumer goods fell by 2.7% in the euro area and by 3.5% in the EU27. Production of energy decreased by 3.6% and 3.8% respectively. Capital goods declined by 8.0% in the euro area and by 8.2% in the EU27. Durable consumer goods dropped by 10.3% and 8.5% respectively. Intermediate goods fell by 11.2% in both zones.
Among the Member States for which data are available for November 2008, industrial production fell in nineteen and rose only in Ireland (+2.6%). The most significant decreases were registered in Estonia (-17.6%), Spain (-15.1%), Latvia (-13.9%) and Luxembourg (-13.8%).
