The first edition of the Bread and Tomato Festival – two typical products of the island, has been launched by the Minister for Gozo Dr Justyne Caruana.
Speaking at the launch of this festival, the Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana said that the festival, which is taking place in Kercem, will be promoting two typical local products, that are even popular with tourists.
The festival will provide information on the nutritional use of these products, while at the same time further promoting genuine local produce.
Minister Caruana thanked the St. Gregory Band of Kercem for organising the event in the village, ensuring that Kercem is also featured in events which are taking place all around Gozo.
The fact that the Bread and Tomato Festival will also be linked to further raise awareness of the condition ALS – also gives social aspect to this festival, said the Minister.
The President of the St. Gregory Band Association Joshua Grech, thanked the Ministry for Gozo to its financial support, thereby helping to ensure that the festival will be a success
He said that this festival will focus more on folklore and traditions linked to these culinary products which are unfortunately often overlooked.
He added that the Association’s musical commitment goes beyond teaching music, “it is also in giving value to social commitment and that is why ALS Malta Foundation has been invited to participate in the festival.”
This Bread and Tomato Festival will be held on Saturday, the 1st of September, in the area of Ghadira Ta’ San Raflu, limits of Kercem and will start at 6pm.
