Gharb Feast and Infiorata cultural event takes place next week in GozoThe village of Gharb in Gozo, is next week celebrating the feast of the Visitation of Our Lady to St. Elizabeth, with both internal and external festivities, including processions, band marches and fireworks.

As part of the programme of festivities, the Gharb Local Council, in collaboration with the Gharb Feast Committee, will be organising the beautiful Infiorata cultural event.

Introduced by the Gharb Local Council – Infiorata has been held on a yearly basis since 2003 and has proved to be a very popular event for the village during the feast.

Infiorata: Carpet of flowers for Gharb feast this SundayLaid on the church parvis, the Infiorata consists of a carpet made of fresh flowers petals and leaves cut in small pieces and arranged together to form various thematic designs.

It is an old Italian tradition, the oldest one originating in Gerano, which is the twinned village of Gharb and is found in the outskirts of Rome Italy. This tradition in Gerano dates back to around the 17th Century.

The intricate design is planned weeks in advance by the team in Gharb, and then at around 2pm on Sunday, the Feast day, a group of local volunteers – adults and children – start the painstaking work of the laying of flowers on the church parvis to form this year’s theme.

The Visitation procession, then leaves the church at 7.30pm, and passes over the Infiorata – Carpet of flowers.

The Council would like to extend its best wishes for the feast and invite everyone to join in the celebrations on Sunday, the 29th of July.

The festivities will be taking place at these times:

Wed, 25th July at 9:30pm to 11:59pm

Thurs 26th July at 9:00pm to 11:59pm

Fri, 27th July at 9:00pm to 1:00am

Sat, 28th July at 9:30pm to 1:00am

Sun, 29th July at 11:30am to 1:30pm

Sun, 29th July at 7:00pm.
