The village of Nadur, will this week be hosting the Annual Meeting of the Charter of European Rural Communities – People Meet People – taking place between the 19th and 23rd of July.
The Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana, speaking at the launch, said that a meeting of this dimension on the island shows that “the Ministry’s vision is bearing fruit,” with Gozo at the heart of the conference.
The delegates will also have the opportunity to visit various sites across the island, both historical and cultural.
Dr Caruana congratulated the Nadur local council, which represents Malta in this forum, for the interesting initiative and praised the collaboration of the council with the Gozo Ministry for the event.
The Minister thanked the Valletta 2018 Foundation, saying that through its vision, the cultural aspect really spread throughout the country, ensuring that even Gozo played its part.
Chairman of the Valletta 2018 Foundation Jason Micallef said, “this project demonstrates exactly what Valletta 2018 means – a cultural project that includes people from all walks of life, communities, cultures and experiences. The European Charter is an example of how culture can unite people together.”
He added that “people coming to this event from other countries will be getting a flavour of Valletta 2018.”
The Nadur Mayor, Edward Said, said that this event will see over 200 people from 28 EU countries, with the main theme being that of solidarity and paying particular attention to the cultural aspects that Gozo has to offer.
