The Fondazzjoni Santa Cecilja of Gozo, in collaboration with the Gozo Cathedral Parish, is organising an Oratorio-Concert on the theme – Santa Marija, il-Mara l’Hi Sbuhija – with lyrics by Joseph W. Psaila and music by Mro. Antoine Mercieca.
The Foundation explained that the lyrics get their inspiration from Christian tradition and theology and then proceed to focus on local history, highlighting the original cult of Astarte within the Cittadella.
It also focuses on the memorable event in WW2 of the arrival of the Santa Maria Convoy, as well as the customs and festivities that every year pull large crowds to Victoria on the 15th of August.
The music is for soloists and orchestra, which will be under the baton of Mro Antoine Mercieca. Soloists taking part during the concert will be, sopranos Rosabelle Bianchi, Ruth Portelli and Maria Grech Magro, mezzo soprano May Caruana, tenor Charles Vincenti and baritone Louis Andrew Cassar.
The Oratorio-Concert, which is on Saturday, the 4th of August at the Cathedral, starting at 8:30pm, will be under the patronage of the Minister for Gozo, Dr Justyne Caruana.
The initiative has been supported by the Ministry for Gozo NGO Assistance Scheme, a funding programme for Voluntary Organisations on the Island of Gozo.
Attendance is free of charge and the public is cordially invited to attend.
