Rossall School Chapel Choir in two concerts of sacred music

The Pope John Paul II Foundation, known as the JP2 Foundation, presented two concerts of sacred music this week by the Rossall School Chapel Choir from the UK. One concert was held in Malta and the other in Gozo.
In Gozo, the choir performed a concert at the Parish Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Fontana.
The concert commemorated former parish priest Mgr George Bezzina, five years since his death, and while the Parish of Fontana is celebrating the twenty-fifth anniversary of the crowning of the titular picture of the Sacred Heart.The concert in Malta, took place at the St. Therese Monastery Church of the Discalced Carmelite Friars, in Cospicua, Malta.
During the Cospicua concert, Bishop Adeodato Micallef (who was very close to the JP2 Foundation) was commemorated, on the occasion of the sixth month from his passing away.
The Discalced Carmelite Provincial also blessed two new paintings executed for the church by the young painter from Victoria, Manuel Farrugia.The Rossall School Chapel Choir, which was founded in 1844, was under the musical direction of Margaret Young, accompanied by organist Joe Watson.
The Choir has a vast repertoire of sacred music, and is made up of more than forty members of at least seven nationalities, including a girl of Sicilian descent, Natalina dell’Armi, who sang Schubert’s Ave Maria.
During the concerts in Gozo and Malta, the Choir performed, among other things, the Requiem of Faure, Pie Jesu, different parts of the Mass, the Magnificat, the Nunc Dimittis, the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s Messiah, Psalm 23 by Howard Goodall, Ave Verum Corpus, Non Nobis Domine, King of all Ages, and the Lord Bless You And Keep You.
The choir was given a warm reception by the audience at both concerts, including former President of Malta Dr. Ugo Mifsud Bonnici, the Minister for Gozo Dr Justyne Caruana and the Mayor of Fontana Saviour Borg.
The next event being organised by the JP2 Foundation will be held on Monday, the 16th of July, in Sannat, details will be provided in the coming days.
