The Nurses and Midwives Union, (MUMN) has announced Industrial Directives which will start from 7am, on Thursday, the 5th of July in all hospitals, elderly residences and homes, health centres and other places of work, it said.
The MUMN said that a Dispute has been registered with the Government regarding the new Sectoral Agreement for Nurses and Midwives.
Colin Galea, the MUMN Secretary General, when announcing the actions, said that they had been ordered “due to lack of progress on the sectoral agreement for workers in the health sector.”
The Directives will include that among others – that nurses will not assist doctors at outpatients, will not give out food, or take part in the washing of patients.
Mr Galea highlighted the fact that there is a shortage of 550 nurses throughout the health sector in Malta.
Directives will involve all MUMN members, including nurses and midwives working in the Gozo General Hospital, Gozo Health Centre, Mater Dei Hospital, Paul Boffa Hospital, Public Health Centres, Sir Anthony Mamo Hospital, Mount Carmel Hospital, St Vincent de Paule, Endoscopy Unit and all operating theatres.
