New Gozo Health Centre opening in Victoria next year

A new Gozo Health Centre, which will be located in Victoria, will be ready in the first half of next year, the Government has announced today.
It is estimated that the project will cost around € 1.5 million and will be financed by funds from the Ministry of Health and the Ministry for Gozo and will be the only one in Gozo.
In a statement, the Government said that the Centre will be situated in St Francis Square, and will be adequately equipped with modern facilities. An artist’s impression on video is available to view here.
It added that, this follows on from the new District Health Centre inaugurated in Xewkija last month, through an investment of around € 80,000, as well as the “ongoing work on the new hospital project by Steward Healthcare, who will also build the Barts medical school.”
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health Chris Fearne, accompanied by the Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana, visited the premises which is situated between St Francis Square and the bus terminus road.
The Minister for Health said that “the construction of this new Gozo Health Centre is further evidence of how the Government is keep its word to enhance health services in Gozo.”Structurally the Centre will be over two floors, with a lift facility for disabled and elderly patients to ensure accessibility to all areas for everyone. The Health Minister said that it is calculated that about 180 people currently use the Gozo Health Centre every day.
Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana, said that the Ministry for Gozo felt that this important building, which is one of the Ministry’s own projects, should serve as the new modern Health Centre to replace the existing one.
She added that it is situated in a strategic and accessible location since it is in the vicinity of the bus terminus, public parking and most of the administrative departments for the island.
Dr Caruana said that the new Health Centre will be a place where a many people can be assisted daily for any kind of medical service.
The Minister went on to say that it is part of a wider project to regenerate the whole area, with the tender to regenerate St Francis Square being finalised, together with the completion of work on the steps which in all will complement this extensive project in the heart of Victoria.
