The eighth edition of the annual Nirricikla ghall-Istrina campaign has been launched by recycling cooperative GreenPak.
Last year the campaign raised over €20,600 for the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation through the collection of caps from plastic bottles and containers.
President Marie Louise Coleiro Preca and Environment Minister Jose Herrera, recently presented five schools with a trophy for collecting the highest number of plastic caps. In Gozo they were, Gozo College San Lawrenz Primary, which collected 377500 caps, the equivalent of 13,981 caps per student; and St Francis School Xaghra, which collected 43000 caps, the equivalent of 3,071 caps per student.
In Malta the winners were, St Francis School of St Paul’s Bay; Helen Keller Resource Centre and San Gorg Preca College Valletta Primary.
Over 16 million caps from plastic bottles and containers, weighing 50 tonnes, were recycled by GreenPak last year, collected from 143 participating schools and 79 entities that signed up for the cause.
