“Life is not a game … if you are drinking, don’t drive!” The National Blood Transfusion Service, in a statement has said that this campaign is true throughout the year and can lead to fewer accidents.
It said that at this time of the year when local feasts are in full swing, the consumption of alcohol is greater.
Faced with this reality the Service has called for “more personal responsibility and discipline in order to avoid unnecessary accidents, resulting in a need for blood, which could be at the expense of others who are sick and in need of a transfusion.”
Meanwhile the Service said that it is is holding a blood donation session this Sunday in Gozo and is inviting members of the public, if health permits, to donate blood this coming Sunday, the 24th of June.
Donations can be made at the District Health Centre in Xewkija. The session will be 8:00am to 1:00pm (last registration until 1 00pm).
It is important to always take your Identity Card, or Driving License or Maltese Passport and to drink plenty of water beforehand.
The Service thanks everyone who intends to donate.
