An alternative way of obtaining certification in foreign languages is being introduced by the Ministry for Education and Employment.
New foreign language proficiency courses are to be introduced at MQF level 3 and 4. The Ministry said that these will focus on communicative competence and will offer accredited certification in each of the four basic language skills separately.
They will be offered from October 2018 (Level 3) and from 2019 (Level 4) and will be available at the Sir M.A. Refalo Sixth Form in Gozo, the Giovanni Curmi Higher Secondary School in Naxxar, and at lifelong learning centres around the Maltese islands.
The Ministry said that this will not only benefit “the large number of students who only decide to opt for a particular course at university after the end of compulsory schooling, but also anyone willing to upskill his/her foreign language proficiency skills for employment or personal purposes.”
