€ 50,000 investment for the Animal Welfare Section in Gozo

€ 50,000 has been invested in the refurbishment of the Animal Welfare Section within the Ministry for Gozo.
The Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana visited the Centre to see the extensive work that has been carried out in this section.
Dr Caruana said that during 2017, the Gozo section of the Animal Welfare responded to more than 530 telephone reports, through which were 426 animals were assisted.Minister Caruana said that due to the fact that the amount of calls for help are unfortunately increasing, the need for capital investment in this section was required
The investment and modernisation involved both buying a new ambulance equipped with the latest technology, the new building which meets the needs of animals that are injured or abandoned, as well as an investment in human resources, explained Dr Caruana.She pointed out that this is not an isolated investment – and this section now has a more appropriate place from which to operate. The Minister for Gozo added that discussions are ongoing for the experimental farm in Xewkija to be put to better use for both agriculture and animal welfare.
Mario Camilleri, Assistant Director responsible for this section congratulated the team at the Centre who work in aid of abandoned animals.
