Emergency Response & Rescue Corps volunteers were recently invited to participate in an exercise organised by the European Association of Civil Protection Volunteer Teams (EVOLSAR) as prospective members.
Sixteen team of volunteers, including the team of four from the ERRC of Gozo, participated in the exercise which lasted for 12 hours and involved a real-life Urban Search & Rescue operation, together with a Rope Rescue operation that required the skills of trained SAR Drone personnel.
EVOLSAR was founded in 2014 by five founding members that includes Malta, Italy, Greece, Portugal and Cyprus.
The aim of this Association is to have a group of European rescue teams like the ERRC, that all train to similar standards and can provide a joint response if necessary anywhere in the EU or adjoining areas.
The ERRC was invited to participate in this exercise by the Emergency Fire & Rescue Unit (EFRU) which is based in Malta, and also participated at the EVOLSAR exercise that was held in Italy.
The Emergency Response & Rescue Corps is a Gozo-based voluntary, charitable and non-profit organisation, and aims at preventing and alleviating emergency situations involving people at risk.
