The inauguration of a monument commemorating Maestro Giuseppi Giardini Vella, took place on Sunday evening at the Villa Rundle Gardens in Victoria, Gozo.
Minister for Gozo Dr Justyne Caruana presided over the ceremony, and said that he was considered a benefactor of Gozo, as well as of Victoria and St George Martyr, especially the 1930 hymn-cantata Al Glorioso Martire, played during the exit of the statue of St. George surrounded by palm leaves.
“It remains a fact that his name was and still is known, respected, praised and loved by everyone. Therefore we honour him with this monument in the Villa Rundle, worked by artist Joseph Xerri,” said the Minister.
During the ceremony, Gozo choir Chorus Urbanus, under the musical direction of Dr John Galea, performed a number of Mro Giardini Vella’s compositions from his operettas and his repertoire of sacred music.
