Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana, on the occasion of World Blood Donor Day, celebrated every 14th of June, visited the new Blood Donation Unit at the District Health Centre in Xewkija, where she met staff and some of the donors.
Dr Caruana stressed that Gozo has the highest percentage of donors in the country, proving what a wise decision it was to finally open these new facilities in Gozo.
The Minister for Gozo highlighted the need to raise more awareness of the importance of blood donations, while at the same time recognise the contribution that donors make with every donation they make.
The new Centre was inaugurated last month by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health Chris Fearne with the Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana.
“Every drop of blood counts and many lives have been saved thanks to the generosity of donors. Therefore it is appropriate that this particular day gives thanks to all those who over the years gave blood and helped so many people,” said the Minister.
A reminder that this Tuesday in Gozo, there is a blood donation session at the new Centre, full information is available here.
