Café Scientifique is organising its final public talk for this season – Science In Fiction: Not Always Science Fiction! It is taking place this coming Wednesday at the Duke Boutique Hotel in Victoria.
During the evening, author, editor and former publisher, Karen Elizabeth Steed, will talk about the relatively new impact of science on fiction and non-fiction writing.
The discussion will cover – How does Science impact on Literature? And does Literature influence Science?
Karen will also provide a brief overview of the genesis of the genres of science fiction, fantasy and magic realism, then talk about some contemporary authors who use science for inspiration, including Margaret Atwood (wave theory) and others.
She will use examples from her work to illustrate a less obvious use of science, including the baroque understanding of science, in her most recent non-fiction publication, Malta: The Beautiful Hour.
The talk gets underway at 7.00pm.
