The Nadur Basilica in Gozo- Official launch of new publication

The Nadur Basilica in Gozo: Art – Architecture – Decoration, had its official launch on Thursday evening during an event held at the Basilica.
The proceeding were led by the Bishop of Gozo Mgr Mario Grech, with the contribution of Prof Keith Sciberras, Head, Department of Art and Art History, Faculty of Arts, University of Malta.
Also in attendance for the launch was the Minister for Gozo Dr Justyne Caruana, who described it as an “enriching experience.”
Mark Sagona edited the book, with contributions by Daniel Meilak, Conrad Thake and Mark Sagona. The photography is by Martin Attard, while Professor Keith Sciberras has written the foreword.
It has been published by the Nadur Parish Office in collaboration with the Department of Art and Art History, University of Malta.
The book tells the fascinating story of the art, architecture and decoration of the Nadur parish church, which has never been before written.
It brings to the attention of the art connoisseur and the general public the noteworthy collection of paintings and sculptures, together with decorative works in silver, wood, bronze, marble and stained glass.
It also scientifically discusses these works and places them – including the architectural fabric of the church – within their international and local context and provides the reader with essential material for the full understanding and appreciation of the art, architecture and decoration of this important church.
The Nadur parish basilica, was remodelled by the important Maltese sculptor and architect Francesco Saverio Sciortino between 1907 and 1913.
