Zminijietna calls for fair bills and sustainable energy consumptionZminijietna, the Left think tank organisation, has welcomed the European Statistics on energy prices that show Malta is the “seventh least expensive regarding energy prices.”

In a statement it said that, “energy prices are affordable and security of energy is guaranteed as the Government is still in control of the administration of energy distribution – the Government’s policy on energy is working.”

The leftist organisation went on to say that it supports the position taken by the Consumers’ Association in urging the Government to “adhere to a policy that fairly calculates energy bills.”

It said that “the current formula adopted, to issue energy bills every two months should remain, however an annual accumulative calculation system should be in place to compensate those families that are unfairly billed.”

Zminijietna concluded by saying that on the sustainable use of energy, it is of the opinion that the Government should introduce measures to “penalise wasteful practices.”
