Trees Are Us Garden by students of Gharb Primary inaugurated

A project for a new garden, which was undertaken in collaboration with Gozo College Gharb Primary School, Gharb Local Council and Learning About Forests (LEAF), was inaugurated on Friday, by the Minster for the Environment Jose’ Herrera.
The ceremony for the Trees Are Us Garden took place on the road leading to Wied Il-Mielah.
LEAF came up with an innovative idea of opening a garden as part of the scheme Tree Your Town.
The site was identified in accordance with Gharb Local Council and preparations for this project got underway.Ideas were discussed through various meetings held at school by the Eco Skola Committee, and it was decided to enrich the chosen site with recycling bins labelled with designs created by the students themselves.
During the Open Day activities at Gozo College Gharb Primary School, all students participated in creating a mosaic display. Damaged ceramic mugs and plates which were collected from students’ homes and used to create the image of a tree, with the assistance of Mary Portelli.The trunk and branches represent the teachers and parents, while the leaves represent the students.
During the ceremony on Friday, Tamarisk trees were planted and individual trees was named after each Eko Skola member.
