First quarter increase in guest numbers and nights spent in GozoThe National Statistics Office reported today, that during the first quarter this year, the number of guests and nights spent in Gozo and Comino collective accommodation went up by 7.7% and 10.1% on last year, amounting to 16,231 and 43,963 respectively,

The average length of stay in Gozo and Comino during that same period remained stable at 2.7 nights, while the net occupancy rate increased by 4.0 percentage points to 31.2%

On a national level the NSO said that total guests and nights spent in collective accommodation establishments during the first quarter advanced by 16.4% and 12.7% respectively when compared to last year.

It noted that the total number of guests numbered 397,518, while total nights spent amounted to 1,848,171 with the largest share reported in 4-star hotels, accounting for 937,426 nights, or 50.7% of the total.

Also on a national basis, the NSO said that the average length of stay went down to 4.6 nights in the first quarter, from the average of 4.8 nights registered last year.

It said that the net use of bed-places stood at 52.6%, up by 3.0 percentage points when compared to the previous year.

During March this year, the NSO said that there were 184 active collective accommodation establishments with a net capacity of 17,655 bedrooms and 39,843 bed-places on a national level.

Total guests in Malta numbered 381,287, up by 16.8% over the first quarter of last year, the NSO added that, additionally, an increase of 12.8% was recorded in the number of nights spent.

The average length of stay in Malta went down by 0.2 of a night to 4.7 nights, while the net occupancy rate increased by 2.8 percentage points, reaching 53.5%.
