The June Annual Symphonic Concert – Big Band Adventures – with Nadur’s Mnarja Philharmonic Band will be taking place at St Peter and St Paul’s Square, Nadur, Gozo, on Saturday, the 16th of June, starting at 9.00pm.
The concert is being organised by the Mnarja Philharmonic Society, with the collaboration of the Nadur Local Council and the Ministry for Gozo, to mark the feast of St Peter and St Paul – patron saints of Nadur village.
The Band is also commemorating the 50th Anniversary of its inauguration on the 16th June 1968, a very special occasion for the Society.
During the last 26 years, Mnarja band has been producing this spectacular concert introducing new repertoire and music arrangements every year. It said that “the genre was very innovative to Gozo enticing other local bands to follow suit.”
“Apart from the already vast repertoire of classical pieces that adorned the band’s music archive, it is now enriched with over 300 new music arrangements covering practically all soundtracks from musical theatre, soundtracks from blockbuster films, pop and rock arrangements that were premiered in the Gozitan band music scenario,” the Society said.
It added that, this year’s concert includes music arrangements never performed on Gozitan soils by local bands.
These include music from popular film movies, medley of Mozart, Michael Jackson, hits from rock band Smokie, hits from pop band Saragossa and songs by Whitney Houston, Guns N’Roses and Van Halen.
The grand finale of the concert will include a spectacular synchronised fireworks show with live music.
Mnarja Band will be under the direction of its Music Director Mro. Joseph Grech and will include local guest singers Jolene Samhan, Francesca Sciberras, Tenor Stanley Portelli and Pop singer Ludwig Galea.
The general public is invited to attend and entrance is free of charge.
JPortelli Projects, Karkanja Limited, Rabokk Pizza and Bernardi Supermarket are also sponsoring this event.
