Public seminar on the Blue Economy in Gozo next Saturday

Next Saturday, there is a seminar taking place in Gozo on the Blue Economy – “Living with the ocean and from the ocean in a sustainable relationship”
Organised by the Ministry for Gozo – EcoGozo Regional Development Directorate, International Ocean Institute HQ, Malta; Institute of Earth Systems of the University of Malta, it will be held at the University of Malta – Gozo Campus.
The organisers said that a quick online search for the “Blue Economy” will rapidly yield a plethora of definitions and interpretations, in the midst of of these it is easy to lose sight of the most basic understanding of “Iiving with the ocean and from the ocean in a sustainable relationship.”
This seminar will explore the concept of the Blue Economy and its potential to increase the long-term benefits of the sustainable use of marine resources.
The seminar will address the different aspects of the Blue Economy and how the concept can be understood in its macro and micro dimensions, taking into account its original concepts and their regional and national re-interpretations; with emphasis on its importance to islands and their special vulnerabilities.
Minister for Gozo Dr Justyne Caruana, will open the event which will also be addressed by experts from the International Ocean Institute; the Trade Analysis Branch, of the UN Convention on Trade and Development, Geneva; the Islands and Small States Institute, and the Institute of Earth Systems of the University of Malta and the EcoGozo Regional Development Directorate – Ministry for Gozo.
The morning seminar is open to the general public of Gozo and Malta and commences at 9.00am with 4 expert presentations and moderated discussion and adjournment at 1.00pm.
