Steve Xuereb crowned champion of Gozo Motocross Championship

Steve Xuereb was crowned Champion of Class A and overall champion of the Yamaha Gozo Motocross Championship 2018 in the finals at the weekend.
Organised by the Gozo Motocross Association, the Yamaha sponsored Championship final attracted large crowds to the Ta’ Xhajma Motocross Track, who enjoyed an amazing show of racing.
The GMA said that Xuereb started out the championship on a good note. Diversely challenged along this journey, Xuereb focused on the goal, trained hard and held on tight to his position which ultimately awarded him the pinnacle of this exciting championship.
He said that it is “a good feeling to be able to win this championship, I worked hard for it and ultimately achieved my lifelong dream.”
Nataniel Camilleri was named champion of Class B. The GMA said that his progress was evident as he achieved one accomplishment after another in each race. “Camilleri flew through the rounds, he has shown confidence on the track and was so determined to win this class.”
Class C also turned out to be an interesting competition as the result remained indecisive to the end. However, it was Matthew Spiteri who was crowned Champion of Class C.
Spiteri is one of the youngest rider in our Association and he will be able to continue winning great battles in the future, the Association said.At the end of the races, trophies, awards and gifts were presented to riders and others.
David Dimech was awarded Best Rider 2018.
The ‘Frank Bruno Motocross Award 2018’ was given to Steve Cassar for his continuous enthusiasm, dedication, and discipline as a rider-member of GMA.
President Frank Xuereb and Executive Secretary VickyAnn Xuereb were presented awards for their hard work and commitment.
The GMA also handed mementos to all of its member riders.
Finally, CEO of the Gozo Sports Board, Alvin Grech, presented trophies to the winners of the dayClass A:

Following the award giving ceremony, a BBQ party was held at the track where riders, friends and family came together to celebrate the new champions and mark the end of a great championship 2018.
The Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana visited the finals, where she congratulated the Gozo Motocross Association on their twinning with MX Riders of Calatabiano, Sicily.
She remarked that this type of event helps to put Gozo on the map for sporting activities, as well as promoting it as an island for sports tourism
Meanwhile, the Gozo Motocross Association said that it is continuing its last minute preparations for the upcoming event in relation to the twinning – Sicily vs Gozo – where 12 Gozitan riders will participate with Sicilian riders in friendly races at the Francavilla MX Park in Sicily.
For the first time ever, twelve Gozo Motocross Association riders will be participating with some of the best Sicilian Motocross riders in Sicily.
The GMA riders will also have the opportunity to do training sessions at this enormous track on Saturday, the 12th.
In October, the riders from Sicily will be in Gozo to compete against local motocross riders.
This weekend’s takes place from the 11th to the 13th of May and is being supported by the Ministry for Gozo and O’Neal Malta.
