A Festival of Sport has been launched by the Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana, which, she said, will transform Gozo into one village with an abundance of great sport.
27 sporting disciplines will participate in the sports festival, which will take place over about six weeks, organised by the Gozo Sports Board, in collaboration with the Ministry for Gozo.
Starting this first week in May until mid-June, the festival will see all the different Gozitan villages welcoming a variety of sports activities, including for this year, new disciplines aside from the traditional sports seen every year.
There will be a women’s football tournament, chess, shooting contests, Special Olympics Festival, the Ghajnsielem Snooker competition, Football festival U7, U9, U11 and U13, with the participation of about 20 nurseries from Malta, cycling, athletics, gymnastics, basketball, squash, badminton, soft ball, tennis, car modelling, air modelling, motorcycles, and horse racing.
“Gozo will be transformed into a showroom of sport and culture to further strengthen tourism in the island, while at the same time strengthening the sporting culture for a healthier society,” said Dr Caruana.
She added that, the Ministry for Gozo is working tirelessly so that sport on the island will continue to flourish and attract more children and athletes to become successful, both here and afar.
