Aurora Opera House opens its doors for European Opera Day events

Each year, on the weekend closest to the 9th of May – Europe Day – opera houses in Europe and beyond open their doors to new and existing audiences to celebrate the art of opera and the talent of those who make it, and Gozo is also taking part in this special event.
The Aurora Opera House in Victoria, Gozo, will be marking this occasion with a series of events which open on Friday.
Friday, the 4th of May, the Aurora will be hosting – Opera like nowhere else. A photographic experience, opens on Friday, the 4th of May, at 8pm on Ground/First Floor Foyers and will run throughout European Opera Days until the 12th of May.
This photographic exhibition blends the opera glamour, that gives Europe’s top capitals a tough competition, with the behind-the-scenes raw and crude but genuine and passionate way with which things are done.
Then on Saturday, the 5th of May from 9am onwards, there will be guided tours of the whole premises
The Aurora Opera House will open its doors to the general public offering guided tours around the premises.
Housed within a former countryside villa, originally built in the late 19th century, the Aurora Opera House still possesses traces of this British-architectural glory, including the original façade and preserved wall and ceiling paintings dating back to the very early years of the twentieth century.
The tours will take the visitors around the front of house, onstage and backstage in an informative and fun tour that is 100% accessible for all. Guided tours run until 12pm.
On Wednesday, the 9th, Thursday, the 10th and Saturday, the 12th – it will be Creative Space, Educational Space, when the Opera House will host teachers and students from Gozo Visual and Performing Arts School to conduct their lessons.
A screening of the Battle of the Operas, will take place on Friday, the 11th of May, in the bar area of the Aurora, starting at 8pm.
The battle of the operas in Malta – more precisely, in Gozo, between the people of the Aurora and those of the Astra Theatre.
The Aurora said that the 2016 ARTE TV production will be screened “not in any of the lavish halls or majestic auditorium, but in the heart of the band club, on big screen in bar, where the party supporters are served tea, coffee and pastizzi. – Free entrance, however booking is recommended.
