A commemorative event has been held in honour of Professor Guze Aquilina, who hailed from Munxar, Gozo.
Organised by the Culture Committee within the Ministry for Gozo, it was attended by the Minister for Gozo Dr Justyne Caruana, who in her address said that the Ministry felt the need to remember this giant in the field of linguistics and literacy.
She said as Professor Aquilina made a huge contribution to the study and promotion of the Maltese language and demonstrated his skills in linguistics. Above all, through his works he passed on the values and influence of his time on the socio-political scene.
Dr Caruana remarked that despite his successes, Professor Aquilina always remained a staunch Gozitan with a great love for Gozo.
She added that the Ministry for Gozo aims to recognise this and is already in discussions with the Munxar Local Council for a memorial to honour the Professor.
The Minister thanked the Culture Committee for this event and stressed the importance of such activities to commemorate personalities who made a contribution to Gozo.
During the event a musical interlude was provided by Brass Tubes.
