11 councils, including 6 in Gozo, benefit from funds to improve rural roads

11 local councils, including 6 in Gozo, as well as Transport Malta, will benefit from over € 11.3 million financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development, to be used for the improvement of 61 rural roads.
The local councils in Gozo to benefit are Zebbug, Kercem, Gharb, Nadur, Sannat and Xaghra.
Parliamentary Secretary for European Funds and Social Dialogue Aaron Farrugia, said that in total more than 270,000 square metres of rural roads will be improved for the benefit of the agricultural sector and rural communities. With around 1,000 farmers and growers expected to benefit directly from these improvements.
Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights Clint Camilleri said that it will be effectively mean better access to fields and land for the farmers and herdsmen, as well as members of the general public who visit these various rural areas.
“It is satisfying to see that these funds will be enjoyed by many farmers and villagers, including those in Gozo,” said. Camilleri.
The councils in Malta are: Attard, Birzebbuga, Gudja, Mgarr and Zabbar. As well as these there are also a number of other locations where Transport Malta will be implementing its own projects, said Parliamentary Secretary Camilleri.
