The Commerce Department within the Ministry for the Economy, Investment and Small Businesses, recently announced the winners of the national competition – Premju Gieh l-Artigjanat 2017.
The new Music Archive inaugurated during last summer by the Socjetà Filarmonika Santa Marija, Zebbug, Gozo, was placed as a finalist in the competition in the category ‘Most Innovative Product by a Group of Crafts Persons.’
The Society said that this long-awaited Music Archive, placed in the newly refurbished committee room took almost three years to be completed.
They added that, “it is an attraction in itself thanks to its unique design and the beautifully crafted artistic wooden sculpture, all made in rich walnut.” This Music Archive now contains the musical history from over twenty years of the band.
The Musical Archive was designed by the renowned designer and sculptor Mr. Emmanuel Cini from Mellieha, who is also a native of Zebbug, Gozo.
The Society remarked that “this success is ultimately an appreciation towards arts and volunteerism, with this project realised thanks to the artisan skills of various volunteers from the quaint village of Zebbug Gozo.”
