Gozitan Marlon Attard’s first competition, the ISSF Junior’s World Cup, which took place in Sydney Australia, from the 19th till 29th March is over, with Marlon just missing out on a place in the final.
The skeet competition was held over two days – with two rounds of 25 yesterday and 3 rounds of 25 today. 14 shooters competed – all of which are the best juniors of the world. Marlon’s score was 22, 21, 24, 25 and 23. A total of 115/125 targets.
For just 1 target, Marlon missed out on the final, as only the first six go on to the final. He was placed 7th.His is a great achievement, having reached this level by himself and through the support of his family, who have travelled to Australia with him. Marlon has no coaches and still managed to create his own shooting techniques. The Gozo Clay Target Association said that, although he is a little bit disappointed because he was very close to the final qualifications, he is looking forward to the next competition, the Commonwealth Games which will be held between 4th and 15th of April at Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.
Marlon is the first Gozitan to compete in the Commonwealth Games. Last month he did an astonishing score of 120/125 targets – which as a national junior record, qualified him for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games. The other Maltese shooters which are competing in the Games are Eleanor Bezzina, William Chetcuti, Nathan Lee Xuereb and Brian Galea.
