Good Friday procession with the Leone Philharmonic Society in Victoria

As we approach Holy Week, the Leone Philharmonic Society has announced details of the Good Friday procession which takes place around the historic centre of Victoria,
The procession will leave from the Gozo Cathedral at 6.00pm, on Palm Sunday, the 25th of March.
The organisers said that “this is the oldest-known procession of its kind in Gozo with its preserved papier-mache statues dressed in rich velvet robes in pure Siculo-Spanish tradition.”
They 4, 17th-century masterpieces and 3 later additions, will be carried in a devotional procession, which includes the Cathedral Chapter of Canons,
It sees the participation of hundreds of volunteers who either parade the 7 statues, or dress up as biblical figure and contingents of Roman soldiers, together with the Leone Band, the procession trails through the streets of Victoria, returning to the Gozo Cathedral at 9.00pm.
The Society said that the public are encouraged to watch the procession from any preferred location. “Recommended vantage points: Cittadella main square (6pm and 8pm) – Cittadella access hill and Savina Square (6pm) (seating available) – Republic Street (7:30pm onwards).
