Ghajnsielem Holy Week events start Friday with Our Lady of Sorrows

Starting next Friday evening with the Our Lady of Sorrows Procession, a number of events marking Holy Week are being organised by Ghaqda Drammatika Ghajnsielem.
The Passion: Then and Now
The Passion: Then and Now – is being presented by Ghaqda Drammatika Ghajnsielem, in collaboration with the Ghajnsielem Local Council and Fort Chambray Limited.
The group said that, “in this short narration, the Passion event will be compared with the tragedies we are living today. Loneliness, distress, illness, bullying, sorrow, abuse, the killing of innocent victims are all experiences that Jesus endured and He is still suffering today through him and her, through you and me.”
Scriptwriter JoAnne Debrincat is responsible for directing the cast of around 40 actors taking part in the narration, Franco Ciangura is responsible for the artistic direction. There are also a number of people involved behind the scenes.
Then and Now – A dramatised version of the Passion of the Christ will be held next Sunday, the 25th of March at Fort Chambray in Ghajnsielem, starting at 6pm, with a repeat performance in the English language at 7.30pm. Entrance is free.
The Last Supper Ta’ Passi fields is the venue for a live reenactment of The Lord’s Supper, when actors will portray Jesus sharing his final meal with his Apostles before his crucifixion.
The special atmosphere and the natural surroundings including the animals, will take visitors back in time to experience The Last Supper. There will also be a live kitchen where traditional Passover food will be prepared.
The Last Supper is on Holy (Maundy) Thursday evening, the 29th of March, from 8.30pm until 11.30pm and the following morning, Good Friday, the 30th of March, from 9am until 12pm.
Our Lady of Sorrows Procession
The Our Lady of Sorrows procession, organised by the group, will include around 100 personages dressed as biblical characters taking part.
The Our Lady of Sorrows procession will leave the Ghajnsielem Parish church at 6.00pm next Friday, the 23rd of March and will continue along the various streets of the village.
Ghaqda Drammatika Ghajnsielem was established 1987, with the principal aim of producing quality productions and activities mainly connected with the Holy Week.
