Number of visitors, nights spent and expenditure all up in January

According to data from the National Statistics Office today, January’s inbound visitors increased by 19.9 per cent over last year, and were estimated at 124,769.
Out of these the NSO said that 106,114 inbound trips were for holiday purposes, with 14,889 taken for business purposes.
The NSO noted that the number of tourists from EU Member States went up by 17.8 per cent on 2017, to 106,631.
The number of nights spent also went up, this time by 15.1 per cent when compared to the previous year, amounting to 848,314 nights. The NSO said that the largest share of guest nights (59.1 per cent) was spent in collective accommodation establishments.
There was an increase of 16.1 per cent over 2017 in tourist expenditure, which was estimated at €82.3 million.
