With today marking the first anniversary since the collapse of the Azure Window, the San Lawrenz Local Council has said that it “continues to emphasise the beauty of this area of Dwejra, which is not only embellishing our country but also offers to all humanity the best of geology, flora, fauna, marine and others.”
The Azure Window finally succumbed to the forces of Mother Nature in the morning of the 8th of March 2017, with a complete collapse into the sea after being battered by the strong winds and high seas that had hit the islands over the previous 24 hours. The Council appealed to all those who make use of the Dwejra area to guard it and protect it. “Above all the Council calls on the authorities to as quickly as possible ensure that this area is provided with appropriate management which better suits this important place.”
On Sunday morning there is a half-day of special events marking the first anniversary of the collapse of the Azure Window, which will be highlighting the special features of this area.
