The Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana has visited a group of people who attend the Santa Marta Day Centre while they were taking part in a `live-in.’
During this live-in, the centre’s clients gain the experience of leading an independent life outside the family home and receive practical information about how to live more independently. It also allows parents and carers some rest and respite.
The group were accompanied by staff from the centre who had prepared a full programme of activities that included, running a home, food preparation as well as time spent on interpersonal communication skills, and of course some relaxation time.
Dr Caruana spoke with the people who benefited from this live-in, who described it as a positive experience from which they had gained knowledge.
Minister Caruana thanked the Santa Marta Centre Management team for this initiative and urged for further promotion of independent living for people with disabilities, which would at the same time provide reassurance to parents and families.
