Christian Mercieca of Victoria Hotspurs has been announced as the BOV GFA Player of the Month for January.
The 20-year old was the mastermind behind the Spurs’ attack against Nadur Youngsters’ providing numerous assists to Elton Da Silva, resulting in their second goal en-route to a 3-0 victory, the GFA said.
The GFA added that, Victoria handed Xewkija Tigers’ their first loss of the season with Mercieca receiving from Henrique Maciel in the third minute of stoppage time before half-time, who fired a low drive that ended in goal despite the attempt by Xewkija’s defence to clear the ball from the fatal line. This goal drew the teams’ level at 1-1 with Spurs taking the 3 points with a 2-1 victory.
Mercieca joined Victoria Hotspurs at the beginning of last season having commenced his career with Oratory Youths and also played youth football in Malta.
He returned to Gozo with Oratory Youths and immediately made an impact with his confidence on the ball and his technical qualities. He quickly gained a regular spot in the Spurs’ team and a main driver in their quest for the main honours this year.
Regional Manager for Gozo at Bank of Valletta Horace Laudi, presented the BOV GFA Player of the Month trophy to Christian Mercieca.
The young player chose Puttinu Cares to benefit from the donation associated with this award.
