Gozo carnival celebrations disrupted through the bad weather

Gozo CarnivalThe heavy rain and strong winds have disrupted the the Gozo Regional Carnival celebrations, with the events planned for Friday night and Saturday morning both cancelled.

The Ghajnsielem Local Council has advised this morning that the Carnival activity scheduled for this afternoon is cancelled due to the bad weather. They apologised for any inconvenience.

Weather permitting, the celebrations are due to take place this evening in Victoria, with something for all ages, promising, fun, excitement, dance and much more…..

Nadur Spontaneous Carnival is this evening Saturday, and on Sunday there are events planned in Xewkija and Zebbug, all depending on weather, details of these are shown below.

The Carnival programme in Victoria is until Tuesday, the 13th of February as below:

Saturday 10th February 6.00pm.

Defile’ along Republic Street to Independence Square (It-Tokk).

Dancing spectacle with the participation of dance companies together with triumphal floats, grotesque masks, “Il-Komittiva” & special guests of Maltese dance companies, Big Friends Guggen Musik Malta and TAMA TNABAR.

Sunday 11th February 2.30pm.

Defile’ along Republic Street to Independence Square (It-Tokk).

Dancing spectacle with the participation of dance companies together with triumphal floats, grotesque masks, bands , “Il-Komittiva” and the representation of il-“QARCILLA” by Teatru Malta, Big Friends Guggen Musik Malta and TAMA TNABAR.

Monday 12th February 6.00pm.

Defile’ along Republic Street to Independence Square (It-Tokk).

Dancing spectacle with the participation of dance companies together with triumphal floats, grotesque masks, “Il-Komittiva,” and “Sambrazilian” – a Maltese/Brazilian band.

Tuesday 13th February 6.00pm.

Grand Finale along Republic Street to Independence Square (It-Tokk).

Dancing spectacle with the participation of dance companies together with triumphal floats, grotesque masks, and local bands.

Nadur

Nadur Spontaneous Carnival – which projects the message of carnival made through satire, kicks off on Friday, the 9th through until Tuesday, the 13th of February, in December 13th Street, St. Peter & St. Paul Square and the surrounding streets, beginning after sunset each day and lasting till the early morning hours.

The Nadur Council said that this year’s Spontaneous Carnival is “bigger and better,” with guest DJs for the evenings, including the Wobis Duo, Kugene (Sound Salon Crew), Joe Spiteri, Pierre Cordina, Ron & Friends, Micimago, Chris Nooke, plus many others.

Xewkija – Sunday 11th February 9.45am onwards

The Carnival festivities in Xewkija are taking place in the local parish square, with a live event presented by Gorg tad-Downuts.

There will be a parade from St Bert Street to St John the Baptist Square. Dance, with music by the Prekursur Band, the participation of local carnival groups, costume and float competitions, traditional and grotesque masks and a Prinjolata.

Zebbug – Sunday 11th February from 12.15pm onwards

Carnival fun in Zebbug will take place in Pjazza L-Assunta, with colourful costumes, dance and the promise of a lot of laughter.
