The Medical Association (MAM) has said today that it will order widespread industrial action starting next week, after talks with the Government today failed to settle the matter.
In a statement the Government said that it will be reserving the right to take the necessary legal steps to safeguard patients in Malta and Gozo who will be affect by these actions.
It said that MAM is “inconsistent in its arguments, as after months of saying that it did not want VGH to manage the three hospitals because the company has no medical experience, now it doesn’t want the hospitals under the management of Steward Healthcare, an American company with long experience in the health sector.”
The Government went on to say that during today’s talks it had offered MAM to see all contracts signed between VGH and the Government.
The statement concluded by saying that, “the General Secretary of the MAM, Martin Balzan, did not accept this offer and following the talks MAM decided to proceed with the industrial dispute.”
