Gozo Regional Carnival programme in the heart of VictoriaThe Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana has launched the official programme for the Gozo Regional Carnival, which after an absence of several years, will again be held in the heart of Victoria.

While highlighting the value and the social and economic contribution of the Carnival, Dr Caruana gave details on some of the activities taking place.

“We worked as a team to organise the Gozo Regional Carnival, which is returning to its natural place, a place where it has been celebrated by one generation after another – in Independence Square or as it is known to us Gozitans, it-Tokk,” said Minister Caruana. “It was not an easy decision but common sense won over all the arguments,” she added.

Dr Caruana also said that, this year, for the first time the committee of the Regional Feasts and Culture Department comes under the Tourism Directorate within the Ministry for Gozo. This is to ensure that Gozo is promoted as a destination during this celebrations.

Gozo is preparing itself for Carnival Fever and this year the Ministry has contributed substantial aid towards the Carnival celebrations – not just for Victoria – but also for Nadur, the Minister said.

The first Carnival event was the official opening of an exhibition commemorating thirty years since the first official logo of the Regional Carnival.

Minister Justyne Caruana said that Carnival in Gozo attracts thousands of Maltese and tourists to the island for this annual activity.
